STORY

This coffee is a blend of AA grades from traceable sources around Bungoma County, an area that is slowly becoming a big coffee producing region in Kenya.  This lot comes mostly from the Kimama Farmers Cooperative, Menu Farmers Cooperative Society, and Chwele Farmers Cooperative Society.  The cooperatives are concentrated in and around Mount Elgon, a fairly rainy area (between 1,000 and 1,200 per annum) where the deep black volcanic soils rich in organic matter make it suitable for growing coffee.

The coffee is grown by small farm holders with an average of 200 trees per farm.  The harvest period falls between June and August where ripe cherries are selectively handpicked and delivered to wet mills the same day for processing.  Once processed, the coffees are blended to ensure the right profile and bagged off for export.  In addition to coffee, the farmers also grow other fruits that introduce biodiversity into the soil profile ensuring a unique taste of their coffees.
